Hi, This is Heart Radio Hull, we are proud to be a part of the Heart Radio Network. Heart Radio Hull is run , directed and presented by Mark Andrews (aka DJ Marky Mark).
Mark has been a DJ for 30 years doing private and residential bookings all over Hull and the East Riding of Yorkshire. He has also done a short stint on Kingstown Hospital Radio, helping out 95.9 Viking FM and BBC Radio 1 Roadshow in Hull in the 90’s.
He has appeared on The Hitman & Her in 1992 alongside other DJ’s and Pete Waterman whilest ITV was filming at Lexington Avenue.
Mark was a DJ at his school from 1986 to 1989.
Mark’s very first professional gig in 1989 was at Waterloo Tavern on Great Union Street, Hull using the pubs own equipment and records and was paid £12 per night.
The pub is no longer there now, in its place is an Anitiques Yard.
Mark bought his own equipment in 1990, a cheap set of speakers costing £89, and a second hand Tornado 100 Twin Turntable Deck with a built in 100 watt amplifier costing £130, two sets of second hand 4-bank disco lights which cost £30 each.
A microphone costing £10. Mark was being paid £50 a night in 1990.
Mark bought his records from Regis Records which was based on Holderness Road, Hull and owned by a guy called Mike.
Mike provided a lot of DJ’s with Vinyl and gave 10% discount to DJ’s. 7” singles back then cost from 99p to £1.39, 12” singles cost £1.99 and LP’s cost from £3.99.
When CD’s where first introduced, Mark transfered over to CD gradually then selling the turntable deck and bought a twin CD deck in 1997 for £350. CD’s in 1997 cost an average of £2.99 for CD singles and £9.99 for Albums.
Eventually Mark gave up with CD’s and bought a laptop in 2006 and transfered his music collection onto laptop as an mp3 file. This process took a very long time to do but he got there in the end.
Mark is still DJing even though work is pretty low nowadays compared to years ago when he was working 6 nights a week, hence is the reason why he set up Heart Radio Hull in April 2018, this way he can still do the job he has loved over the past 30 years and still loves to this day.
We hope you have enjoyed reading about Mark Andrews the owner of Heart Radio Hull and we hope you enjoy listening to our shows.
